solids

investigation

Week 1

As we complete our exploration of two-dimensional Geometry, we begin the shift into three-dimensional solids.  Geometric solids have an infinite number of forms; concentrating on polyhedras, cylinders, cones, and spheres.

Our initial investigation will be on geometric solids.

Please go to  Solid Figure Topics Summary Page, here explore the concepts of

  • Solid Figures
  • Surface Area
  • Volume
  • Solid Figure Terms
  • Then visit GeometryWeb Wiki and discuss the ways to calculate volume and surface area of solids.

Now visit the Illuminations Solid Geometry Page, here complete

  • Lesson 1 – Getting to Know the Solids
  • Lesson 2 – Study the Solids
  • Lesson 3 – Looking for Patterns
  • At the GeometryWeb Wiki respond to the properties of solids.

For you last investigation visit the Learner Geometry Page, here complete

  • 3D Shapes
  • Surface Area & Volume
  • Euler’s Theorem
  • Platonic Solids
  • If you have found additional information on how to calculate volume and surface area you can update your posting at GeometryWeb Wiki
